Heated Rajesh VS State debate? No, not really. Most lawyers seem rather underprepared with their opening speeches, shocking considering a school canteen was set on fire. Is it plain negligence? Or is there a deeper secret behind? It is entirely natural to have the desire to plan out what to say before you say it; however, relying too heavily on a piece of paper can be a distraction from points of the speech. Inexperienced lawyers are often too scared to come up with speeches on the spot, so they pre-write or don’t talk at all, not that anyone says anything about it. It is imperative to learn how to give a statement at a moment’s notice without preparation. To paraphrase Mark Twain, ‘it's better to stutter and make a bad speech and have people think you're an idiot than read your speech off notes and prove that you are”.
